The Women's U20 World Cup saw the end of the first round as South Korea and Japan completed victories Sunday afternoon in Japan. The Japanese defeated Switzerland 4-0. The Koreans defeated Brazil 2-0.
For Japan, Yoko Tanaka struck first with a 30 minute goal. She once again scored in the second half at minute 47.
Five minutes later, Asuka Nishikawa piled another point on a 2-0 deficit. It was 3-0 and then finally Hikura Naomoto scored a penalty at minute 84 to complete the victory.
With the victory, Japan finished took first place in the Group A standings as they went through the first round 2-0-1 with 7 points.
The Koreans put a hurt on Brazil's dreams of advancing to the quarterfinals as Jeoun Eunha's two-goal performance was enough to get the Korea Republic the win.
The game was scoreless for most of the match until Eunha scored at minute 74 and 82.
The Koreans finished in second place in Group B behind Nigeria. They finished the first round with two wins and one loss.
Both countries will move onto the quarterfinals and they will face each other on August 30. The winner of this match will advance to the semifinals as they will continue on the road to capturing the U20 World Cup.
