The Oakland Raiders have signed Trent Richardson, but the team could look at an Adrian Peterson trade with the Vikings this offseason to add more depth and this comes as players like Michael Crabtree, Reggie Wayne, Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings and Hakeem Nicks are potential free agent options for Derek Carr, as the team needs wide receivers to help on offense.
According to ESPN.com writer Bill Williamson, the Raiders could still be a potential option for Peterson even after signing Trent Richardson. The team likes Latavius Murray, but they may want some more depth and they currently have the cap space to afford a deal. Williamson also writes that the team could look at signing another wide receiver, as players like Michael Crabtree, Reggie Wayne, Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings and Hakeem Nicks are available.
Crabtree is visiting with the Dolphins and he is coming off of a solid season with the 49ers, but they did not want him back and signed Torrey Smith instead. Bowe is reportedly close to a deal with the Browns, but he is still on the market and could be a potential option if the Raiders jump in. Reggie Wayne is old and while he has not been the receiver he once was with the Colts, he could be a cheap, high upside, low risk option for the Raiders. Hakeem Nicks once looked like a number one receiver, but he could be a solid number three or four for the raiders after one year for the Colts.
The Raiders may also look at the draft as an opportunity to get an explosive offensive player, as the team has a top five pick once again. The team has been mentioned in connection to Amari Cooper quite a bit in mock drafts and some scouts have suggested Kevin White could be the pick. According to Pro Football Talk, White could be an option over Cooper for the Raiders, as they have shown in the past they love speed and White has that and proved it while running a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the combine.
The Raiders came into free agency with a ton of money and Ndamukong Suh was a target, but he ended up signing with the Dolphins on a massive contract. Suh was looking to be one of the highest paid players in football and he ended up getting that with over $110 million on his deal from Miami.
Suh is an All-Pro player and he would have been a good signing for the Raiders, as they have had issues stopping the run in recent years. The team made some moves on defense this offseason, signing Curtis Lofton along with Dan Williams and Nate Allen and that should help turn things around. The team ranked in the bottom half of the league in passing yards and rushing yards allowed per game and those players should help improve that.
The Raiders went 4-12 for two straight seasons before going 3-13 last year and now McKenzie is trying to add to a solid young core. The team has Khalil Mack, Derek Carr, DJ Hayden and Mychal Rivera along with Latavius Murray and they may add another strong player to that this year. The team let go of Matt Schaub and now they have Christian Ponder as the backup for Derek Carr.
