Cleveland Browns Rumors: Mike Glennon Traded After Johnny Manziel, Sam Bradford Deal Denied as Marcus Mariota, Bryce Petty Options with Josh McCown

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all-but guaranteed to select Jameis Winston with the No. 1 overall draft pick. Head coach Lovie Smith has done nothing but sing the praises of the former Florida State star and the selection seems like a good fit. That means that competition is high for Marcus Mariota and any team that misses out on the Oregon quarterback will be looking elsewhere for help at the position. Smith is making it known that Mike Glennon could be available.

The trade rumors surrounding Glennon have grown louder and louder the more Smith endorses Winston as the future. According to the Tampa Bay Times, several teams talked with the Buccaneers about Glennon's price while at the NFL Scouting Combine, but no one actually finalized a deal. With seveal teams aiming to get a quarterback in to either be a starter or potential competition pusher, Glennon might be a viable option.

The Cleveland Browns immediately become an option given the team's interest in a trade for Sam Bradford. St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed via NFL.com that the Browns did make a pitch for Bradford, but the trade did not involve Johnny Manziel being offered. With competition getting high for Mariota, could Cleveland target Glennon instead? The Browns are still very invested in the potential future of Manziel and believe their former first-round pick will turn into something so long as he has time to develop behind Josh McCown.

The New York Jets could also be a target. The team is naming Geno Smith the starter for the time being simply because Ryan Fitzpatrick is still recovering from a broken leg. Both Smith and Fitzpatrick do not inspire confidence for Jets' fans. The New York Daily News linked the team to a trade for either Philip Rivers or Drew Brees, but their respective teams shot that idea down. The Jets are another team that could potentially miss out on the Mariota draft frenzy, leaving them limited at the quarterback spot. Glennon could come cheap enough to make a deal worth while.

Smith has never been invested in Glennon. He remained on the roster last year because Tampa Bay held out hope that McCown would turn into something better. That failed to happen leaving the Buccaneers back the drawing board. Glennon's potential is unknown at the moment given he was not exactly surrounded by talent in Tampa Bay. Getting on a team like the Jets or Browns could help his potential.
