Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Todd Gurley Drafted Over Adrian Peterson Trade Despite Tony Romo Pay Cut? TJ Yeldon, Melvin Gordon Visit as Matt Forte, Stevan Ridley Options

Despite still recovering from an ACL tear suffered during the 2014 college football season, Todd Gurley is at the top of every team's wishlist in the NFL Draft. Anyone looking for running back help as the former UGA star on their list of favored draft prospects as many NFL experts believe he could be the steal of the draft. Gurley was a Heisman hopeful before missing a portion of the season to an NCAA suspension and then the knee injury, but Gurley is starting to be a busy man as a number of teams prepare to bring him in for a visit including the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Gurley is set to visit the Dallas Cowboys this week as the team is predicted to draft a running back in an early round. Despite the injury, Gurley is considered the best available and competition for him will be high. As a backup plan, the Cowboys are also bringing in TJ Yeldon, Melvin Gordon, Ameer Abdullah and Tevin Coleman. All of the running backs are expected to meet with Cowboys team officials while being the best at the position this season.

It is no secret the Cowboys need running back help. The team said goodbye to NFL leading rusher DeMarco Murray after failing to negotiate a contract extension which caused him to leave for the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys only attempt to replace Murray was to sign Darren McFadden who is coming off a very disappointing tenure with the Oakland Raiders. Owner Jerry Jones has endorsed McFadden as a work horse running back, but that is not stopping Dallas from considering their options.

There is still the lingering move to trade for Adrian Peterson. The Minnesota Vikings running back has stated his desire for a change in scenery which could come in the form of Dallas as the franchise has been linked to a trade deal since the start of the 2014 season. The Cowboys have paved the way for a potential deal, clearing cap space after restructuring Tony Romo's contract. For the right price, the Vikings will deal the veteran away. However, right now it appears the Cowboys are content with playing it safe and seeing what the draft will provide them before making a decision on Peterson.
