Bobby Valentine has exceeded his time as a Boston Red Sox's manager. Yes, it is only the first week of September, but Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports has begun the chase for another manager and his best suggestion is Terry Francona.
It is the same Terry Francona who was fired at the end of 2011 without hesitation from Red Sox management. The same Terry Francona who led Boston to the best record in baseball prior to their September collapse.
Rosenthal has many reasons why Sox should hire Francona, some of them being a manager who can "communicate well with his players, command respect from them and protect them when necessary, all while handling the fan and media demands in New England with aplomb."
Valentine is a jokester and very sarcastic, something not all players can handle. The Red Sox possess some of what are to be considered, "best players in the league," some of these guys who are too sensitive to understand a person like Valentine.
Valentine does not garnish respect from players because of this and has completely lost the ball club as the season has spiraled out of control.
Valentine belongs in a quieter market, a market where he, as the manager, can get the attention from the media. Valentine never belonged in Boston as the team already speaks for itself.
Francona was rushed out of Boston following the team's collapse, as Rosenthal said they should get over it and bring back the old skipper so that he can lead the team and do it in such respectful manner as called for from a manager in Boston.
Rosenthal fears that Boston will not admit to their mistake and simply look the other way and try to find another coach.
One potential manager is former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek, who was with the club not too long ago and was considered the best man to have behind the plate as he led the Boston pitching staff to two championships.
Valentine is out for sure at the end of the season. It now lies in the Red Sox's hands what they want to do about their managerial situation. Chances are that they will not get Francona if you ask me, but it certainly will not be another clown like Valentine.
Anyways, somebody should remove Francona from the ESPN booth and get him a job where he can continue managing, whether it is with the Sox or anybody else.
