New York Giants Results: Dallas Cowboys Win 24-17, Analysis of Loss, Commentary

Well the Dallas Cowboys made me eat my words as my prediction of the first game of the season went the other way. They defeated the New York Giants 24-17 in the 2012 NFL season opener.

This one looked ugly for the Cowboys early. Eli Manning had things under control despite a few sacks and incomplete passes, nothing new. A David Wilson fumble deteriorated a Giants' run.

Not to mention that the Giants had a chance to get a touchdown after an interception Boyle ran down to the Cowboys' three-yard line, but looked a lot like the New York -Preseason- Jets as they could not get the ball in the end zone for the score.

With two terrible running plays called, Ahmad Bradshaw hit walls of Cowboy defenders and then Victor Cruz could not make a play on what Giant fans would have called pass interference.

Yes, the referees missed a few calls, but that was not why the Giants loss so let's get that out of the way.

Here is what they lacked:

1: Secondary
2: Rushing game

Nothing new.

The Giants suffered from the same illnesses as they did in 2011 and Tony Romo and the Cowboys deserve credit for making the Giants defense look completely subpar.

Their secondary disappeared after the first quarter. Not that Justin Tryon was the only one messing up, but he looked lost out there.

Romo and Ogletree burned the Giants, especially on 3rd down plays. Ogletree finished the night with 8 catches, 114 yards and 2 TDs.

On a 1st and 30, Romo hit Miles Austin for a 34-yard touchdown that completely drained the Giants and their crowd.

Yes, the Giants failed to address their issues of the past, but Tony Romo put on a clinic that has to be respected. It was not like the Giants and the Dallas were close in the second half.

The Giants also struggled on the ground. Bradshaw got a break as he had one long run of 33 yards. Without that rush he would have finished with 16 carries and just 45 yards in the game.

All in all, the Giants looked like a different team in the second half. Manning could not buy time in the pocket as the offensive line did not let him find receivers down the field. If you are a Giants' fan, you have been here before and can only hope that they pick up the slack on defense and offense down the road.

For the Cowboys, they executed almost perfect football offensively down the stretch. It is a good sign for a team that is desperate to change the culture surrounding the franchise in the previous seasons.

Next up, on the Week 2 schedule, the Giants meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Meanwhile the Cowboys meet with the Seattle Seahawks.
