The LA Lakers are planning to spend money this summer and the team hopes that Kevin Love hits the market and they also may target names like Greg Monroe, Goran Dragic and Rajon Rondo and this comes as the team also may consider a trade for Brandon Jennings as support for Kobe Bryant.
According to Pro Basketabll Talk, the Lakers are expected to have over $30 million in cap space this offseason and they could spend on multiple players. Marc Gasol and Monroe will be targets along with Rondo and Dragic. The Knicks are also expected to chase those players and that could set up a battle with the teams this summer. The Celtics also could be in the mix with the money they will have.
Dragic reportedly sees the Lakers as a "perfect fit", but Miami will have the inside track at signing him since they can offer him a bigger deal than Los Angeles. The Lakers can offer a deal at four years and around $80 million, but Miami can go one year longer and around $100 million. The Knicks are also expected to chase after Dragic and if he stays in Miami, expect Rajon Rondo to be the player the two teams chase.
Love will be the top target if he opts out of his deal with the Cavaliers and that remains a big if for the team. Love has started to get more involved in the offense and while reports have him considering opting out, there is a good chance he finishes out his contract in Cleveland before hitting free agency. Love will be a main target for the Celtics, Lakers and Knicks if he ends up hitting the market.
The Lakers will have enough cap money to sign multiple players on the market and they could go hard after Marc Gasol if he thinks about leaving Memphis. Most reports have Gasol staying with the Grizzlies, but the Lakers would love to get him back after trading him in the deal for Pau Gasol years ago. The Lakers also could chase LaMarcus Aldridge or Greg Monroe, as both of those players are also unrestricted free agents.
The Lakers have wanted a star point guard since trying to trade for Chris Paul and with Dragic, Rajon Rondo and Reggie Jackson likely hitting the market, the team could focus on getting at least one of those players. The Lakers main targets likely will be Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love if he hits the market, as those two have been connected in rumors to the team for years. According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Lakers are hoping that Love opts out of his deal with the Cavaliers, as they are hoping to sign him to a contract. The team initially planned to target him this summer, as he was previously with the Timberwolves and everyone expected him to be available.
