New York Jets News 2012: Stephen A. Smith Says Team Hasn't Proved A Thing

Stephen A. Smith, ESPN writer and analyst, sounded off on the New York Jets following their 48-28 routing of the Buffalo Bills. It was an amazing start to the 2012-2013 season after the team only scored one preseason touchdown. Smith said the Jets have not proven anything.

"Stop this nonsense, please!," said Smith in his column in response to everybody thinking the Jets were suddenly Super Bowl contenders after their victory over a horrible team.

He said the Jets are still mediocre and they faced a Bills team who had poor defense and a quarterback (Ryan Fitzpatrick) "Who spent Sunday afternoon reaffirming the possibility that there actually may be a passer worse than Tim Tebow."

Smith says the Jets do not have a franchise quarterback despite Mark Sanchez's performance and having Tebow on the bench as the second-string quarterback and special teams player.

The Jets still have to face the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers. They will have to shut down two premier wide receivers in Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown, while simultaneously attempt to score against a top ranked defense in recent years.

It will be Sanchez vs. Troy Polamalo, a battle which Polamalo is bound to win at some point.

Smith goes on to say that even if the Jets beat the Steelers, the bigger picture for the team is winning a division, which will be likely dominated by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
