The Buffalo Bills could be in the market for a quarterback heading into the draft and a Mike Glennon trade is a possibility if the Buccaneers take Jameis Winston, while names like Brett Hundley, Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson, Sean Mannion and Taylor Kelly could be options for GM Doug Whaley over EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel as Rex Ryan heads into year one.
The Bills have been active this offseason with adding LeSean McCoy and signing Percy Harvin and heading into the draft, Whaley may look at addressing the QB situation. The team has Manuel after using a first round pick on him a couple years ago and they traded for Cassel, who is the presumed starter heading into workouts. Whaley has said to the media this offseason that the Bills will look at quarterbacks in the draft, but likely in the mid-to-late rounds.
Winston and Marcus Mariota are considered the top options with Bryce Petty, while names like Brett Hundley and Garrett Grayson have also been receiving attention. The Bills likely will; not be in the mix for those players if they wait until the weekend to take a quarterback, but that may be what Whaley is planning. According to the Buffalo News, Whaley said that the team doesn't want to run into problems "over-drafting" a quarterback and that could lead them to wait on someone like Mannion, who is a bit more under the radar than other players at the position.
Hundley is being looked at as an option for teams that miss out on Marcus Mariota, while Grayson has been getting attention from teams like the Jets and the Cleveland Browns. Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and Jeff Tuel are on the roster along with Manuel and if the Bills draft another quarterback, Taylor or Tuel will likely be the odd man out. Whaley has already ruled out trading up for a QB, as the team gave up picks last year to go get Sammy Watkins and they do not want to leave the cupboard bare for this year.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Bills met with Petty ahead of the draft this week and he could be a potential option for the team in the middle rounds. Petty is considered by most to be the third best quarterback in the draft behind Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota and he could also be a target for the Browns and the Cowboys. The Bills feel comfortable with Matt Cassel as the starter, but Doug Whaley has said numerous times this offseason that the team would look at quarterbacks in the draft.
Glennon could be a potential target after the draft, as ESPN reports that the Buccaneers could trade Glennon after taking Jameis Winston number one overall. The Bills could look at moving a mid-round pick if players like Petty or Hundley are off the board and that could give Rex Ryan his own QB to develop. Manuel has not turned out to be as good as the B ills had hoped and the previous regime with Doug Marrone originally drafted him anyway.
