Manchester United Transfer News: Bobby Charlton Excited By Van Persie Signing, Expects Striker to Score Plenty of Goals

Manchester United and England legend Bobby Charlton cannot contain his excitement at sealing the signing of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal, saying it is a "paradise for the team's supporters".

Van Persie has already made a big impact at Old Trafford, scoring four goals, including a memorable hat-trick which took United from the brink of defeat against Southampton to an improbable victory.

Charlton has no doubts that Van Persie will continue his prolific run with United, after the Dutch international netted 37 goals for Arsenal last season.

"We're very happy to have Robin Van Persie here," Charlton stated in The Ambassador's Column for United Review. "You can't possibly see him not scoring goals for us.

"He'll do his chasing, he's good in the air and he doesn't think about it. When the goal is there, he doesn't look up -- take his goal against Fulham for example. The chance came to him and he just helped it on its way. Robin is a great goalscorer; that's why Sir Alex (Ferguson) likes him.

"It's just paradise for any team's supporters when they've got someone who can potentially score from nothing. He's got this skill and if his team are playing well then he will score the goals.

"He obviously thought highly of us as he could have been at other places but he's liked Sir Alex's approach. We've done quite well against Arsenal over the last few years, so maybe that's helped him make his decision to come here."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger knows all about the striker's talents and rued that fact that he was sold to a title rival, knowing Van Persie is capable of hurting the Gunners anytime this season. "I'd have preferred him to go to a foreign club, so that he doesn't haunt us," Wenger said. "You have to accept it, it's part of life.

"Obviously, it hurts to see him in another shirt. Every move he makes, every gesture, he tries to do it to perfection.

"You can call him at 10 o'clock at night, you won't find him in a nightclub. He's either watching a match, a video or preparing himself for the next match."
