Cleveland Browns Rumors: Travis Benjamin, Duke Johnson Versatility Helps Josh McCown as Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West Battle to Start with Brian Hartline, Dwayne Bowe

The Cleveland Browns are hoping to get a lot out of a little in 2015 as they lack true No. 1 wide receivers and running backs while banking on the resurgence of veterans. That starts on offense as Josh McCown looks to bounce back as a starting quarterback and the wide receiver group runs as a committee instead of having a clear depth chart. Versatility will play a key part in which players get more time on the field and Duke Johnson and Travis Benjamin might benefit from that heading into 2015.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Brian Hartline and Dwayne Bowe will be the starting two wide receivers leaving the third spot up to whoever earns it in training camp. Early reports say Travis Benjamin could be the favorite considering his versatility as a speed receiver and return man. Injuries have played a big factor in the lack of breakout plays for Benjamin, but everyone believes the receiver is set for a big 2015 in both the offense and one special teams. Coordinator Chris Tabor told the Plainer Dealer that expectations are high for Benjamin and the team needs for him to meet them.

"I expect him to be great," Tabor said. "I've got a lot of respect for Travis Benjamin. I think he's a great football player. I'm excited for him to have the opportunity to play like Travis Benjamin in the return game. I've got great confidence that he can get that done."

Rookie Johnson is expected to have a similar impact. Despite having potential stars in Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West, the Browns drafted Johnson out of the Miami, not to simply aid in the run game, but to impact the passing game as well. During rookie mini-camp head coach Mike Pettine liked the hands he saw on Johnson and expects him to be much more versatile in the backfield for the Browns.

McCown will get the start at quarterback and needs as many weapons as possible. Benjamin and Johnson will be key to that while Crowell and West battle as starters. The Browns are hoping these players are enough to pull them back into contention as a franchise.
