Buffalo Bills Rumors: EJ Manuel To Start With Matt Cassel In OTAs? Release Option With Mike Glennon Trade, Michael Vick Targets?

The Buffalo Bills are coming into offseason workouts with Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel as the top quarterbacks on the roster and they will compete in OTAs for the starting job for Rex Ryan and after reports came out that Manuel could be released, the Bills could consider making a move for Mike Glennon in a trade or signing a free agent like Matt Flynn or Michael Vick to compete in training camp.

The Bills are coming into the season with high expectations after signing bringing in LeSean McCoy and getting Rex Ryan as the new head coach. The biggest question mark is at quarterback, as the team brought in Matt Cassel in a trade and he will have the leg up over Manuel coming into offseason workouts. According to the Buffalo News, the Bills are "willing to cut" Manuel if he does not improve this summer and that could lead to another QB coming in behind Cassel.

Following that report offensive coordinator Greg Roman came out to say that Manuel is doing a "very good job" and working hard this offseason and Rotoworld describes him saying that his spot on the "roster is secure". Ryan and this coaching group did not draft Manuel and there is a chance they could move on if he does not bounce back this year. Cassel should have the edge to start workouts, but there is a chance Manuel could step up and take the starting job. Last season Manuel played in five games and had 838 passing yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions and in his career he has 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

According to ESPN.com reporter Pat Yasinskas, the Buccaneers may consider trading Mike Glennon this summer if Jameis Winston shows a lot of progress, as he is expected to be the starter in week 1. Glennon could be a low risk option for the Bills, as the Buccaneers could take a mid-round pick for him. The team also could consider a free agent option like Michael Vick, as he remains on the market and has a past relationship with Rex Ryan as well.

The Bills should have a strong receiving corps with Percy Harvin coming in to join Sammy Watkins, Marquise Goodwin and Robert Woods, but the big question is how good the quarterback play will be. Last season Kyle Orton was up and down and behind Cassel and Manuel now is Tyrod Taylor and Jeff Tuel, two players without much experience or success in the NFL. Cassel and Manuel will likely split reps to start things off and the team could make a decision over the summer about Manuel and his future.

The Bills have the chance to make some noise if Tom Brady is suspended for the first four games of the season, as they could take advantage in the division over New England early on. Sammy Watkins had a strong rookie season and while he had surgery this offseason, he is expected back and ready for training camp. The team is expecting another good season from Watkins and adding Percy Harvin should open things up even more on offense for Buffalo.
