The NFL free agent market has some notable names left with Chris Johnson, Daniel Thomas, Felix Jones, Ben Tate, Ray Rice, Wes Welker, James Jones, Jermaine Gresham, Zach Miller, Knowshon Moreno, Steven Jackson and Reggie Wayne available and teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos could be landing spots before training camp.
The Cowboys have been working out running backs heading into OTA workouts, while the Vikings may add another player at the position if Adrian Peterson holds out. The Cowboys have worked out Ben Tate, Felix jones and Daniel Thomas over the last couple weeks, while players like Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson are also available. Ray Rice is a free agent, but right now his name has not come up in connection with any teams ahead of OTA workouts.
Depending on what players show up for OTAs and minicamp workouts next month teams could look at adding players at certain positions. For example, the Cowboys brought in AJ Jenkins on a contract for OTAs and while he could prove himself and stick around, his presence is likely to help depth with Dez Bryant sitting out of offseason activities while he works on his contract situation. With players like Bryant, Peterson, Demaryius Thomas and Jason Pierre-Paul absent from workouts, teams will be more likely to bring in free agents for offseason camps.
Chris Johnson remains on the free agent market and he has offered up his services for the Cowboys heading into OTAs. The Cowboys have worked out Jones and Tate along with Thomas and they likely will bring ion a running back this offseason. The Dolphins may also look at adding a running back along with the Vikings for depth in camp, while the Browns also could be interested.
Cleveland has added a number of wideouts this offseason with Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline coming in, but they also could look at adding more for OTAs. The team has Josh Gordon out for this season and while they like Taylor Gabriel and Andrew Hawkins, the Browns may want some more depth for Johnny Manziel and Josh McCown at the position. Wayne is likely going to sit on the market for a while, while Welker could be a cheap option with a high upside as long as he can stay healthy.
Jones should get some attention heading into training camp if he is not signed sooner, as he was fairly productive for the Raiders last season. Jones led Oakland with over 70 catches last year, but the team released him in favor of signing Michael Crabtree and they also drafted Amari Cooper in the first round. The Dolphins added Greg Jennings at receiver and Jones could be a target for the Broncos if Thomas stays away during camp workouts.
The Broncos also could look at signing another tight end despite bringing in Owen Daniels this offseason, as the team has already lost draft pick Jeff Heuerman to an injury. The team may look at adding Jermaine Gresham or Zach Miller, as the Broncos lost Julius Thomas in free agency and could add some depth behind Daniels with Heuerman out for the season with a torn ACL.
