The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners are set for a three-game series at Safeco Field and things will get going with Game 1 and that starts on Monday night and the matchup has Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda in a pitching duel to open up the set and starts at 10:10 pm ET as Alex Rodriguez heads back to where he first came into the majors.
Hernandez is on the mound against the Yankees after shutting out the Rays, while Pineda will make his first start in Seattle since the trade that sent him to New York. Hernandez has been excellent this season and he comes in with an 8-1 record and that is the best start to his career. Pineda has settled in after getting rocked by the Royals and the Yankees are hoping to turn things around on this road trip out to the west coast.
The Yankees are settling down towards .500 and the Mariners are just hovering below as the month of June gets going. The AL East has not been much of a division so far with the Rays and Yankees tied at the top, while the Orioles, Blue Jays and Red Sox are next in the standings. The AL West has not been great either behind the Astros, with the Angels, Rangers, Mariners and Athletics next in the standings.
