The New York Jets defeated the Miami Dolphins 23-20 on a field goal by Nick Folk after a long game that went to overtime.
Prior to the Jets' win, Dolphin's kicker Carpenter missed a 48-yard field goal that would have given the Dolphins defense a chance to hold on defense for the victory.
The Jets battled back in this one to get the game into overtime. With time ticking in the fourth quarter, the Jets were in Dolphins territory after Sanchez hit Santonio Holmes for a big gain that got them into the red zone. He hit Jeremy Kerley for the go-ahead touchdown with 3:01 left in the game.
The Dolphins threatened late in the game they picked up a flag on 3rd & 10, moving the ball down to the Jets' 28. They could not covert but tied the game at 28.
It was a sloppy game for both teams as the second half dragged. It was packed with turnovers and injuries for both teams.
The Jets lost Darrelle Revis was out for the Jets and Reggie Bush was not available for the Dolphins in the second half after suffering an injury in the first half.
The Dolphins took advantage of Jets and referee mistakes. They scored a touchdown plays after a pass to Anthony Fasano was ruled complete even though the tight end looked to have lost control of the ball as he hit the ground out of bounds.
The Jets started out the second half with a pick six by Landry, which helped New York tie the game at 10. They forced a fumble on the ensuing possession, but could not capitalize as Sanchez through his sixth interception of the year in the end zone. Dolphins' Chris Clemens.
The Jets went into the half trailing 10-3.
Reggie Bush seemed to pick up right where he left off last Sunday as he highlighted the Dolphins' first drive with a 16-yard rush.
Daniel Thomas gave the Dolphins the lead with a one-yard touchdown. With the score, the Dolphins capitalized on a Mark Sanchez interception as the Jets were driving into Miami territory.
Richard Marshall picked Sanchez off. It was Sanchez's fifth interception of the year.
The Dolphins' secondary was giving them issues, but it was more about their discipline as Santonio Holmes kept drawing pass interference calls in third down plays for the Jets.
Tim Tebow had a first down on a fake punt for the Jets and that became their highlight of the first half.
