Oakland Raiders Rumors: Trindon Holliday Contract Hurts Andre Holmes, Rod Streater, Kenbrell Thompkins Battle as Mychal Rivera, Latavius Murray Compete to Start

The Oakland Raiders are looking to acquire as many playmakers as possible. The team is hoping to truly make strides this year and starts with the offense. As Derek Carr comes into his second year in the league and first as the established starter, the Raiders are working to build around him. They drafted Amari Cooper in the first round while signing Trent Richardson. Now, they have acquired one of the more versatile players on the field that could help the team in more ways than one.

According to the Raiders official website, the team has signed Trindon Holliday to a contract while waiving receiver Andre Debose. Holiday was drafted back in 2010 in the sixth round by the Houston Texans. He has bounced around in the league as teams failed to figure out exactly how to use him. While playing for LSU, Holliday was a true offensive weapon, working as both a dynamic receiver and special teams asset. The Raiders are the next in line to see if they can bring out Holliday's abilities.

Holliday has struggled with injuries during his tenure in the league, but the receiver has made it clear that he is healthy. His size could be the issue no team has really taken a chance on him thanks to his 5-foot-5 frame. Holliday has yet to excel as a receiver or pass-catching running back, but Oakland is ready to see exactly what he can bring to the table outside of being a premier return man.

It will be interesting to see if Holliday can push his way into a position group as the Raiders currently have several battles going on for starting jobs. Richardson and Latavius Murray are competing to be the lead running back. Holliday would work well as a situational player with those two. He cannot compete with the size and abilities of Michael Crabtree and Cooper, but if he can demonstrate good hands with his speed, the Raiders would be wise to work him in with the receivers.

Outside of Cooper and Crabtree, the receiver production drops off. Players like Andre Holmes, Rod Streater and Kenbrell Thompkins are in need of big years if they intend to remain on a roster. Holliday might not be a big threat to the rotation, but he has the skill set to push players to the sidelines for a few plays each game.
