Chelsea Transfer News: Eden Hazard Was Not a Big Fan of Chelsea Last Year; Di Matteo Reveals Admiration for Moses

Eden Hazard admitted he almost signed for Tottenham Hotspur this summer, while adding he was not too excited by Chelsea's playing style last season.

Hazard eventually made a big-money summer move to Stamford Bridge, after snubbing the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, but it was another London club Spurs that were closest.

Had Spurs not tailed off like they did last season, allowing an impressive Arsenal side take third place, one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe could have been plying his trade at White Hart Lane.

"It's true that Tottenham tempted me because it was a young team which was third in the league," Hazard told France Football.

"Unfortunately, the end of the season did not go well. They did not reach the Champions League, which tipped the balance."

However, the Chelsea move was not as cut and dry as some would have been led to believe. Hazard, who likes to play attractive football, was given an assurance by the Chelsea hierarchy about their plans to bring in a more eye-catching style by signing the likes of Oscar and Marko Marin along with the Belgian international.

"Nobody was really a fan of Chelsea's game last season," Hazard said. "The directors told me they were going to recruit good players with whom I could play decent football. Marko Marin, Oscar and me, we like to have the ball at our feet. Juan Mata likes the ball, so does Ramires.

"The title of European champions, and Champions League qualification, counted for a lot because the club was not doing well in the league.

"Once Chelsea won the final, it was a natural choice."

Meanwhile, Roberto Di Matteo has revealed this summer was not the first time he tried to sign Victor Moses, who is expected to get his first start in a Chelsea shirt in their Capital One Cup tie against championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers Tuesday.

"He's still young, but he will improve and develop, he's an exciting player," Di Matteo told the club's official website. "I tried very hard to sign him, not just this year but previously as well, so he's a player I like very much and he will have a big influence on our season.

"He's strong at holding the ball, his dribbling ability is very good and he can go past defenders, which not many players can do. He has pace, he's good at making runs in behind as well, he's a very good player.

"Probably last season was his best season, he was more consistent, and the back end of the season was the best he's played. He's still young but it's good that nobody else noticed him."
