During the summer, the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a brilliant move that surprised fans, players and even Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak as they were able to acquire two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns.
Even though it was thought to be highly unlikely that that Nash would end up in L.A., that's exactly what occurred.
As arguably one of the best point guards in NBA history, it's expected that those currently in the Laker uniform will greatly benefit with Nash's arrival. One player that was happier than most about Nash's arrival was two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol.
Gasol is ecstatic about the prospect of playing alongside the eight-time All-Star next season, as evident to his interview with Marca.com:
"The signing of Nash made me very happy. He is the most unselfish player in the NBA. I'm excited to play with Steve, he brings a lot to the table. He is the most generous player in the NBA."
Gasol's status has been shaky with the Lakers for the past two seasons.
With Nash he'll be allowed to breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to another season playing with a legitimate NBA title contender. Nash will definitely play a big role in Gasol's success as the he'll thrive with his Canadian counterpart running the backcourt.
Pick-and-roll plays will be the winning recipe for Nash and Gasol as they should play well with one another, as did Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire a few years back with the Suns.
This season expect to see a spike in Gasol's numbers offensively, thus taking some the scoring responsibilities off Kobe Bryant.
