Four of the eight teams designated for the quarterfinals at the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup have gained entrance after their matches on Saturday.
Nigeria, France, Korea DPR and Canada all advanced to the quarterfinal round after finishing in first and second place in the first round of the World Cup tournament.
Nigeria ruined Colombia's chances of advancing after defeating them 3-0. They finished the first round with two wins and a draw while scoring 15 goals and allowing one.
Canada retired Azerbaijan, the host of the games, 1-0 leaving the nation winless in the tourney. Canada finished in second place in Group A behind Nigeria. They had the same record as the Nigerians, but they only mustered three goals in the tournament.
Korea DPR finished in a 1-1 draw with the USA. With the result, the U.S. was eliminated from contention despite having the same record. The difference was the 11 goals Korea scored against Gambia in their first match of the tournament, finishing with 13 goals in their first three matches.
Right behind them with a similar record of one victory and two draws, France had 11 goals and defeated Gambia 10-2.
Now in the quarterfinals, Nigeria will face France and Korea DPR will face Canada.
These matches go down on October 4.
Groups C and D will finish their group stage tomorrow as they will conclude the first round of the U-17 World Cup from Azerbaijan.
