Manchester United Transfer News: Patrice Evra Excited by Rooney-Van Persie Partnership; Rafael Gets Best Player Award

Patrice Evra believes Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney will form a lethal combination for Manchester United, as Brazilian right-back Rafael was named the player of the month by United fans.

Van Persie has been in tremendous form since signing for the Old Trafford club from Arsenal this summer, with several suggesting the possibility of Rooney being consigned to more bench time, with Ferguson reportedly preferring the Dutchman up front.

While there were reservations about the two superstar strikers playing together, Van Persie and Rooney showed just what they can achieve together with a wonderful combination display against CFR Cluj in Tuesday's Champions League game.

Rooney, playing in a much more withdrawn role, as the playmaker, set his Dutch teammate up for both the goals in a 2-1 victory. With the England international equally capable of finishing off chances and Van Persie very much adept at providing assists, the prospect of the two playing together and working together will be a mouthwatering one for the United faithful.

Evra believes the best is still to come from the duo. "Both Wayne and Robin are outstanding players. It's great to have those kinds of players," Evra told the club's official website.

"A lot of people were talking a lot when Robin was playing on his own and scoring goals but people can't forget what Rooney has done for this club. He showed that when he came on against Tottenham and on Tuesday.

"He's a big player for us and he looked sharp. And I'm definitely sure they can both play together although I'm not the boss!

"Robin is an amazing player and that's good, but everyone will want to show they can play with Robin. When someone new comes in, everyone expects a lot and forgets the old things.

"It's why Wazza has to show everyone (what he is capable of). It's the same for me as well, and everyone, we all have to play their best to play for this team now.

"The star is the team not one player."

Meanwhile, Rafael was named the player of the month for September, after putting in some solid,  highlighted by that wonderful equalizer against Liverpool at Anfield. The youngster edged out a player on the other end of his career, but someone who looks like he could still play another ten years - Paul Scholes.

Rafael garnered 48 percent of the votes, with Scholes getting 44 percent. Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick shared the remaining amount of votes between them, according to the club's website.
