The first quarterfinals match of the day will be played between Germany and Brazil as both teams attempt to advance into the Women's World Cup semifinals.
Germany claimed the first spot in Group D after posting a 2-1-0 record in the first stage of the World Cup. They tallied seven points and scored eight goals while allowing four.
Their first game was successful as they defeated Ghana 2-1. They followed this match with a 1-1 draw with China, but then advanced to the crushed Uruguay 5-2 to take the top spot in Group D.
For Brazil they had the bad luck of playing in the same group as Japan who scored 17 goals and allowed none in the first round of the World Cup. Brazil lost their first match of the tournament 0-5 to Japan.
However, they rebounded from the loss by defeating Mexico 1-0. They then won their next game in a close one by one goal over New Zealand 4-3. Similar to Germany, they finished with a 2-1-0 record. They scored five goals, but allowed eight.
Both offenses have pivotal players. For Brazil, Byanca has two goals in the first round to lead the team. She also has one assist.
For Germany, the player to watch is both midfielders, Sara Daebritz and Ricarda Kiessling, both midfielders, who have scored two goals each in the World Cup.
