Do not miss the action of the NL Wild Card Game as the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals will clash today at 5 p.m. ET.
This will be a great chance for the Braves to get personal revenge after losing the one Wild Card spot to the Cardinals in 2011. The Braves lost the Wild Card in the last day of the season in the famous, or infamous, Game 162.
Atlanta went dead cold while the Cardinals were red hot in September. Ultimately, the Cardinals built so much momentum that they won the World Series and it was all because the Braves could not close out the season.
Without a doubt, the headline of today's matchup between the Cardinals and the Braves are teams' starting pitchers. They will have both of their aces on the mound.
Kyle Lohse earned the first win of the 2012 season in the Major League and since then, he has been unstoppable losing only three of his 33 games started.
The Braves and Fredi Gonzalez looked like geniuses as they allowed Kris Medlen to work in the bullpen and build the strength back in his arm after going through Tommy John surgery in 2010 and missing most of the 2011 season.
Medlen is 10-1 in the season and 9-0 as a starter. The Cardinals have Kyle Lohse who is 16-3 in 2012. So you have two pitchers who are combined 26-4.
It will be one crazy matchup.
Both teams are in the Top 10 in team ERA. The Braves are fifth with a 3.42 and the Cardinals are eighth with a 3.71.
The Braves possess the advantage in the bullpen as they have the second lowest ERA in the Majors, behind the Cincinnati Reds at 2.76.
St. Louis brings the more potent lineup standing fifth in the majors with 765 runs scored in the season. That is 65 more than the Braves.
