Bobby Wagner is easily the best linebacker on the Seahawks and one of the standout leaders on that defense. The Seahawks are very aware of this and are actively trying to get a contract extension in place.
Wagner is set to earn $1 million in the last year of his rookie contract and is going to command a large sum going forward. The Seahawks must make sure to not over extend themselves contractually because they must resign Russell Wilson at the end of this season before he hits the free agent market.
The Seahawks also have a franchise tag that they could use on either player but most likely it would be for Wilson. Wagner and his agents have been more than receptive during the negotiation process and would most likely like to sign an extension before training camp. Wagner is only 25 but has already become one of the premier defenders in the league, he has 9 sacks, 138 assisted tackles, 226 solo tackles, and 5 interceptions.
The feeling is that Wagner would like to remain a Seahawk for the rest of his days and that a contract extension should exceed the 5 year mark.
