NFL News: Gus Johnson Signed By Dallas Cowboys For RB Help In Training Camp

The Stephen F. Austin State University product Gus Johnson has signed with the Dallas Cowboys. This is the second running back they have added to the offseason program the first being Lache Seastrunk.

Johnson is a three time All-Southland Conference selection and was the 2014 Southland Conference Player of the Year. The Cowboys invited the all-time leading rusher for the Lumberjacks (with 3,907 yards) to their camp in Oxnard California for a tryout. Johnson who is 5'10, 224lbs, ran a 4.62 at his Pro Day and has impressed the Cowboys enough to sign him.

This is likely due to the fact that the Cowboys released injury prone running back Ryan Williams today. Johnson accounted for 84.1 percent of SFA's rushing yards, and 95.8 percent of rushing touchdowns in the run game.

Johnson has a Mark Ingram, C.J. Anderson type of build which makes him a hard running back to take down or stop in the open field. Johnson has a nice burst when entering his cuts and is completely the opposite of Ryan Williams.

Johnson has never been majorly injured either in his seasons at SFA or in high school. He is one of the higher ranked undrafted running backs out there and this could signal a change with the Cowboys that if a running back is seen as ineffective like Williams has been then they will go in a different direction. Johnson is definitely one of the more exciting offseason additions to this Cowboy's roster.
