Kansas City Chiefs News: Dontari Poe Injured, Could Miss Training Camp, Start Of Season

Kansas City Chiefs starting nose tackle Dontari Poe will miss all of training camp and maybe some regular season games.

Poe complained about back pain for most of mini-camp and took 2 epidural injections. It was discovered that Poe had a herniated disk in his back and was going to need surgery. Poe underwent a microdisectomy which was successful in repair the disk in his back. Now it appears that Poe could even miss some regular season games which could be extremely detrimental as the Chiefs play the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, and Denver Broncos all within the first four games of the season.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stated "I think he stands a reasonable chance (to return) the early part of the season, whether it's the beginning or somewhere early in the season for his return. You just have to see how things recover."

Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder also stated "He had successful surgery, microdisectomy, he had that disk removed. He's in Memphis right now. He's not doing a whole lot of rehab or treatment. He's going to be up here with us on Friday. He'll have extensive treatment and rehab and I've told the coaches that we won't talk about anymore activity with Dontari until after we get out of training camp. For training camp purposes, he'll be with me. But he'll be in meetings and all that kind of stuff. He's recovering fine."

Jaye Howard should get the start if Poe cannot play most likely splitting reps with Mike DeVito.
