The St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals will go head to head in a Decisive Game 5 matchupon Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT.
Both teams have traded punches. The Nationals took Game 1 3-2. Then the Cardinals followed with two eight-run victories in Games 2 and 3. Last night, Thursday, in Nationals Park, the Cardinals could not deliver the season ending blow as the Nationals used some magic to win in dramatic fashiong.
Jayson Werth, the guy who many have considered to be overpaid and overrated, smacked a solo home run into the distance for the walk off win against the Cardinals. The Nationals celebrated as the home run gave them life, at least for another day, pushing the series to Game 5.
It should be a stellar pitching matchup as both teams' starters will have a combined 35 wins on the mound and a repeat of Game 1.
Adam Wainwright will take the hill for the Cardinals. He went 5.2 innings allowing just one run on six hits, three walks and had 10 strikeouts.
Wainwright will be opposed by a Gonzalez, though the team did not lose Game 1, who is looking for redemption as he finished his first playoff start with seven walks over five innings pitched allowing two earned runs on just one hit and five strikeouts.
The key figure is the seven walks, which he will look to decrease in Game 5. In 199.1 innings during the regular season, Gonzalez walked 76 hitters, that is about 3.4 every nine innings. He doubled that in his Game 1 performance.
