Liverpool has brought in Christian Benteke on a deal this summer after losing Raheem Sterling to Manchester City and more moves could be on the way, as Mario Balotelli is reportedly a target for a move to Qatar for club Al-Arabi, while Alexandre Lacazette is another option for the Reds and Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds had a strong second half of the season in the Premier League, but a slow start and a sluggish offense kept the team out of the top four. Liverpool finished second to Manchester City in 2013-14 and was one of the highest scoring teams in the EPL, but all that changed once Luis Suarez left. Things did not work out with Suarez and once he left the team had a hard time finding the net, as the Reds scored half as many goals without Suarez playing.
Benteke now heads out of Aston Villa and he is coming to Liverpool after rumors that he could be an option for Arsenal and Manchester United. The team has Benteke on a $50 million move and it comes after the team got a big windfall on the Sterling transfer. Sterling is now with Man City for over $70 million and the Reds could be looking to make other moves as well.
Rodgers said that the addition of Benteke should be very big for Liverpool and that he has the "mobility and quickness" to dominate at this level. Benteke is only 24 and he still could get even better for Liverpool moving forward. The Reds are happy to keep Benteke from Man United after the way the team played last season and now they should be better on the offensive side of things.
According to Metro, the Reds are also interested in a move for Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon. At first reports had the Reds backing off of a deal after signing Benteke, but now reports have the team looking to make a move for Lacazette with a month left into the deadline. The Reds also could look at Mario Balotelli moving from Liverpool, as reports have Qatari club Al-Arabi as a potential landing spot.
