The San Francisco Giants play versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET as they embark on their NLCS Game 1 matchup.
The Giants and Cardinals are coming off clutch performances in the NLDS. The Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds and the Cardinals got past the Washington Nationals, both in Game 5.
The Giants' Buster Posey hit a grand slam that made the difference in their Game 5 matchup. The bullpen almost lost the game at the end as the Reds had the winning run at the plate.
The Cardinals made one of the craziest comebacks as they scored four runs in the ninth inning to complete a comeback win. They crushed the Nationals' hopes of advancing to the NLCS.
The Cardinals are on a similar run to their 2011 championship campaign as they have been considered underdogs in their matchups.
They got past the Atlanta Braves (with a little help from the umps and Chipper Jones) and now shocked the Washington Nationals who had the best record in the major leagues this season.
Pitching Matchups: The Cardinals will have Lance Lynn on the mound. He has not started in the playoffs as he has been designated to the bullpen in the NLDS. He has pitched 3.1 innings and given up three runs on three home runs.
On the mound for the Giants will be Madison Bumgarner.
Bumgarner also has been roughed up. He has pitched 4.1 innings and and given up four runs. He got the loss in Game 2 of their series against the Reds.
