NFL News: Detroit Lions Sign DeAndre Levy To Contract Extension In Training Camp

The Detroit Lions have made a move to secure some of the best defenders they have left, namely DeAndre Levy. It is being reported that Levy has signed a 4 year extension with the Lions. Levy has been a solid defender throughout his time with the Lions.

He has racked up 618 tackles, 12 interceptions, 2 touchdowns, 2 forced fumbles and only 3.5 sacks. Levy has become one of the best weak side linebackers in the game today and continues to force turnovers any way he can.

The Lions need to do whatever they can to keep their defense intact as the loss of Haloti Ngata to injury in training camp sets a bad precedent for what to expect of him the remainder of the season. Ngata has been placed on the NFI list and can return at any point during camp however Ngata is viewed from a free agent perspective as the replacement for Ndamukong Suh however the Lions have expressed its going to take more than just Ngata to replace the production that Suh brought to the table.

Lions players and fans alike have said the loss of Suh is overblown and they may be right. In the last four seasons with the Lions Suh only had a double digit sack number once ending up with 36 sacks in four years, however none of the other Lions players are remotely close to that number.
