The Boston Red Sox continue their search for a manager in the 2012-2013 season and Tony Peña, the current New York Yankees bench coach, will have a chance to interview with the club for the opening.
Peña is one of Joe Girardi's coaches in the Bronx despite interviewing for the position of manager after Joe Torre was fired back in 2007.
Peña, who played in the majors for 18 seasons from 1980-1997, was a member of the Boston Red Sox for four seasons. He played with them from 1990-1993.
As far as managerial experience, Tony Peña managed the Kansas City Royals from 2002-2005. Though the Royals never finished higher than third place, which came in 2003, Peña was awarded Manager of the Year taking the ball club to an 83-79 record.
In his four years with the Royals, his winning percentage was .410 as he finished with a record of 198-285 finishing in an average fourth place in the AL Central during his tenure.
The Red Sox have continued interviewing managers, most recently Los Angeles Dodgers' third base coach Tim Wallack met with the team. DeMarlo Hale, current Baltimore Orioles' third baseman is said to be interviewing on Thursday.
Also in their Red Sox's scope is former Houston Astros catcher Brad Ausmus.
