Premier League Scores and Results: Manchester United Wins Over Tottenham, Chelsea Draws With Swansea To Start EPL Season

The English Premier League season has opened and Manchester United started things off with a victory over Tottenham, while the EPL defending champions Chelsea opened with a draw against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge and this comes as Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have also started with wins.

The Saturday schedule opened up with Manchester United taking things 1-0 at Old Trafford against the Spurs and the lone goal came on an own goal from Tottenham. Everton and Watford played to a 2-2 draw, while Aston Villa won 1-0 against Bournemouth. Leicester City opened with a 4-2 victory against Sunderland, while Crystal Palace started off with a win after going 3-1 against Norwich City. The champs opened with a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against the Swans.

The Sunday matches have Arsenal starting off the season at home at the Emirates against West Ham, while Newcastle and Southampton is the other early game. Liverpool will visit Stoke City for the late game. Monday finishes off the week with West Brom and Manchester City playing and that has Man City away as Raheem Sterling makes his debut.

Man United did not look great, but a win is a win and they come in with a victory into next week after an own goal from Kyle Walker. The team did not generate many chances and it likely will take some time for Louis van Gaal's side to get into comfort with each other after all the changes this summer. Tottenham had a solid season last year while finishing in fifth and Man United is looking to get back on top after making it into the Champions League again.

BBC Sport reports that this is the first time that the opening goal of the season in the Premier League was an own goal. Man United now has a lead to start the season and Chelsea comes in after a draw, earning a point to open their title defense. Chelsea was able to pull out the draw after a slow start and they went up 1-0 after a goal from Oscar, but Swansea was able to come back with an own goal from Federico Fernandez.

It's early of course, but the EPL table has Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Manchester United with three points. Chelsea, Everton, Swansea City and Watford have each started with one point on Saturday.
