Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle announced Monday that the team has suspended guard Delonte West for conduct detrimental to the team.
Though no timetable has been specified, according to ESPNDallas.com, West's suspension stems at least in part from an outburst in the locker room after the Mavs' 123-104 preseason win over the Houston Rockets. West recorded 2 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound in 16 minutes during the win.
A few hours after the suspension, West took to Twitter to issue an apparent apology.
In his first tweet, West wrote: "Sorry momma.''
In a followup tweet two minutes later, West wrote: "I showed off on ur birthday again...''
West, who's been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, is entering his second season with the Mavs.
West's bipolar disorder was a factor in a September 2009 incident that resulted in his arrest on weapons charges after he was pulled over while driving a three-wheel motorcycle in Upper Marlboro, Md.
West was sentenced to eight months of house arrest for that incident and suspended for 10 games by the NBA.
West was a valuable role player for the Mavs last season, averaging 9.6 points and 3.2 assists and playing tenacious defense while seeing time at both guard positions.
