Cleveland Browns Rumors: Johnny Manziel Injury Helps Josh McCown as Terrance West Released if Isaiah Crowell, Duke Johnson Excel with Ray Rice Option?

The Cleveland Browns are not happy with their running back situation as injuries begin making their way through the rotation. While the Browns are standing strong on the idea that they will not add another body to the roster, struggles and inconsistencies might force them to make some decisions. As Isaiah Crowell continues as the lone healthy running back, will Terrance West be safe from release for the time being?

According to Browns running back coach Wilbert Montgomery, no one on the roster wants the starting running back position. The coach slammed players for coming into training camp out of shape which has led to injuries on the field. Both West and Duke Johnson remain out with issues and Cleveland is not thrilled.

"The disappointing thing was that all those guys approaching here and not being in tip-top shape," Montgomery said, via ESPN.com. "I think that was a total setback, and now they are climbing back uphill and that's why they're taking a back seat right now. You'd like to think that the guys that participated, who were here last year, you would like for them to have more of a lead role in that aspect of it. Is it going to happen? I don't know, and that's why I let them know every day, the competition is still the same. It hasn't changed."

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, West is on thin ice with the team. After a lackluster rookie season, the Browns reportedly have concerns over his immaturity and were going to let training camp determine his future. If Johnson succeeded early, West could be out. However, with injuries piling up, the running back appears safe from elimination for the time being.

The Browns are still determining their depth chart before preseason play, but it is assumed that Crowell will get the starting nod as he is the only one healthy. The bigger question is Johnny Manziel who is thriving at the right time. According to the Plain Dealer, Manziel is out of practice to rest his arm, but success during the team scrimmage has many debating whether or not he is ready for the starting job. For the time being, head coach Mike Pettine is supporting Josh McCown as the lead quarterback.

"I wouldn't make a huge deal about it, but it's progress for me,'' Manziel said, via Cleveland.com. "It's better than I played last year in the scrimmage. I'm happy about it and happy about stringing some good days together. That's what I wanted to do."
