NY Mets News and Rumors: David Wright Returns Against Philadelphia Phillies, New York Leads NL East

The NY Mets will have David Wright back in action for the first time since April on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies and it comes as New York is leading the NL East division by five games over the Washington Nationals.

Wright is being activated from the disabled list and according to Adam Rubin at ESPN, Wright will be in the starting lineup when the Mets visit the Phillies. Wright has been on the disabled list for most of the season and the 32-year-old is expected to get some time off in between games to get his legs back over the next couple weeks. Wright comes in after hitting over .320 during his rehab assignment in the minors, which lasted eight games.

Wright has played in only eight games this season while dealing with back and shoulder issues and he is finally ready to return. Wright hit .333 in those games with one home run and four RBIs and the Mets are hoping he can contribute right away. The team has added Yoenis Cespedes, Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe at the trade deadline and that takes some pressure off Wright as he makes his return. The last team Wright played against was the Phillies back in April.

The Mets come into the series leading the NL East and they are up on the Nationals and looking good for a playoff appearance right now. The bullpen has been up and down as of late, but the team has been able to score more and the pitching has continued to be strong. Terry Collins is hoping that Wright can get things going early and that would help getting him more playing time for the Mets. The Mets have the Phillies, Red Sox and then the Phillies again at home next on the schedule.
