As we reach the cusp of the NFL regular season we begin to see how injuries play a role in contract negotiations.
--UPDATE: Reggie Wayne has signed with the Pats.
Reggie Wayne has been waiting to get a call from a contender so he potentially fights for another Super Bowl victory before retirement. Wayne got exactly what he was looking for as the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers are reportedly interested in his services.
The Green Bay Packers are the most recent team thinking about bringing in the talented veteran. The Packers lost one of their most vital wide receivers in a meaningless week 2 preseason contest; Jordy Nelson. Now the Packers must look to add another weapon for Aaron Rodgers and Wayne could be just what they are looking for.
The Packers already know they cannot replace Nelson's production just by signing one over the hill receiver. It will take a committee of wide receivers to replace the production that the Packers had gotten so accustomed too. Leading the way in this process will be the Packers younger wide receivers, Jeff Janis, Davante Adams, and Ty Montgomery.
The rookies might be a little too green at this point to help on anything besides special teams. Adams looks like the most consistent player out of the three and considering that this is his second season he might be primed to break out. Reggie Wayne would be brought in as a capable threat who plays his heart out every time he is on the field. Expect him to sign with the Patriots or Packers by the end of the week.
