The US Open 2015 tournament is here and the tennis draw is set with players like Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nada and Andy Murray in action and all coverage will be from ESPN on the ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3 channels and the WatchESPN website for the duration of the tournament. Maria Sharapova has pulled out ahead of the start of the tournament.
Serena Williams comes in as the favorite on the women's side and it comes after she won a "Serena Slam" with all four major titles in her possession. Williams now is going for the calendar grand slam and that is the biggest story coming out of Flushing for the tournament. Roger Federer is one of the favorites along with Djokovic for the tournament and it comes after he won in Cincy over his rival.
Djokovic has had another strong year and he has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon already and he nearly made it to the finals of the French. Djokovic lost to Stan Wawrinka and he also will be a top player to watch for the tournament. Nadal has had a bad season and is getting older, but he always can make things happen here. Nadal is eighth and he will have a tough run and Federer also should have a chance to make it.
Sharapova is out of the tournament after dealing with an injury and he has not been able to play since losing to Williams in the semis at Wimbledon. Sharapova drops out just as she is third ranked among active players with 179 Grand Slam wins, per ESPN Stats. Sharapova said that she aggravated the injury while preparing to play in one of the war-ups for the Open. Sharapova was set to play Daria Gavrilova, who had previously beat Sharapova earlier in the tear in Miami. Now Daria Kasatkina will take over.
Williams was in line to play Sharapova and now her draw will get slightly easier, although Williams has had a strong record against Sharapova in the past. Williams and Federer come into the tournament after winning in Cincinnati for the warm-up leading into the Open and that could give both players motivation moving forward. Federer won the last major and took down Djokovic in the final of Cincinnati and now he has the chance to get things going again. Williams will have the most attention, especially because this tournament is in the United States.
