US Open 2015 Tennis Results, Scores: Venus Williams Wins, Kei Nishikori, Ana Ivanovic, Heather Watson Upset In First Round, Grigor Dimitrov Advances

The US Open has started up for the first round in Flushing and some big names are already gone in upsets, as Kei Nishikori, Ana Ivanovic and Heather Watson have all been eliminated, while names like Venus Williams, Grigor Dimitrov, Feliciano Lopez, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Milos Raonic and Mardy Fish have advanced into the second round.

Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Serena Williams will be playing later in the day on Monday and they are all expected to make it barring big upsets. Venus Williams won on Monday in the first round, taking down Monica Puig in three sets with a score of 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-3. Williams is now into the second round and she will play against Irina Falconi.

Watson went down in the first firs round yet again and she has been unable to find her way over the hump for this major. Watson lost to an American in Lauren Davis and the match finished off in straight sets for Watson.

Davis was lower ranked than Watson and she won the match with a score of 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-0). Watson could not get things going on her serve and she also had more errors on her forehand than Davis did. Watson was on a good run at her last major, making it in Wimbledon to the third round against Serena Williams and Watson almost won. Williams came back and won 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 and now Watson is out at the Open.

Nishikori also suffered a tough loss, as he previously made it to the finals last year and now he is already out of the tournament in the first round. Nishikori previously did not play in Cincinnati while dealing with a hand injury and that time off may have affected him here. Nishikori lost to Benoit Paire, who is ranked 41st, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the first round and now one of the finalists from last year is done.

Mardy Fish made it into the next round to give the Americans some confidence on the men's side of the draw, taking down Marco Cecchinato 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 for the win. Ivanovic comes in as another upset, as the former number one player lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkov. Ivanovic was number seven on the women's side and now she is done and it comes after she previously won a major back in 2008 at the French Open.
