Nets-Knicks Courtside Season Opener Seats Selling For $8,100 At The Barclays Center

One of the biggest storylines coming into the start of the upcoming 2012-13 NBA Season is the season opener game between newly formed crosstown rivals the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks on Nov. 1st.

The New York Post reported that the sold-out Nov. 1 contest between the two New York City based team has ticket prices averaging $800.87 a pop on StubHub and other secondary-market sites. The cheapest tickets were going for $217.

The prices for the game have been the highest prices in the Big Apple for a sporting event since the New York Yankees won the World Series in 2009. The prices have even surpassed the $675.43 ticket average Madison Square Garden saw for the Knicks versus Dallas Mavericks game back in February of last season, when the legend of the Jeremy Lin "Linsanity" reached its peak.

Even with pricy $800 average for tickets, courtside ticket prices completely dwarf that amount.

Courtside seats for the Nets-Knicks game are running as high as $8,100, well above the normal price of $1,500.

The Barclays Center's seating capacity for Nets games is 17,732, and the team has sold close to 11,000 season tickets.

The Post also reported that Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz was not surprised to the high demand for Nets season opener tickets.

"Move over, Knicks!" the beep crowed. "New York is not just your town anymore, and with Linsanity over, Brooklyn swagger is about to begin."
