San Francisco Giants News: Hunter Pence Wants Lucky Bat Back After it is Sold

Give him Fryer back! Fryer is the name of Hunter Pence's bat, which broke while helping the right fielder drive in three runs which broke the game open on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals and helped the San Francisco Giants advance to the World Series.

The bat was sold to a season-ticket holder for $400. Yes, a broken bat was sold for all that money. Pence, of course, wants it back.

I do not know why Pence wants a broken bat back, but who can blame him?

Leading up to Game 4, Pence was hitless and had not driven in a single run in the playoffs. He was still valuable however, as the Giants used him as their mascot. He rallied the team on the field and provided them with motivational speeches off the field.

Pence finally broke through the production columns with a solo bomb in Game 4.

What bat did he use to accomplish this feat?

Fryer, the same bat that broke in Game 7.

The peculiar thing about this bat, aside from it leading to a three-run, bases clearing double, was the way he got the hit.

The bat split in half at the handle and the ball rolled down the broken pieces and made contact with wood three times before getting in play.

Pete Kozma was heading one way, but the ball curved into the middle of the diamond, picking up an awkward spin of the bat.

The fan who bought the bat has said he wants to return it.

With the way the Giants were getting production from the middle of their lineup, it looks like Pence will need his lucky bat by his side if the Giants want to beat the Detroit Tigers and claim their second championship in three years.
