Washington Redskins Rumors: Kirk Cousins Denies Robert Griffin III Drama, Matt Jones Hurts Alfred Morris Fantasy Value with DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed

The Washington Redskins are still trying to lower the volume on the Robert Griffin III as they focus on the first game of the season approaching on Sunday. The Redskins were hoping to have a drama-free offseason, but that went out the window when Griffin suffered a concussion and head coach Jay Gruden named Kirk Cousins the starting quarterback. With Cousins now under center, he is making it clear there is no hard feeling with Griffin.

Gruden has made it clear that Griffin is still very much a part of the Redskins team and Cousins is stressing the same thing. The quarterback told the media that the drama that unfolded with Griffin is not any kind of distraction and both quarterbacks are simply focused on winning and improving this season.

"He's been great," Cousins said, via ESPN.com. "He's always been classy. I don't feel a distraction in the building. The distraction is if I turn on the TV, answer my phone, get on Twitter. As long as I'm in the building working hard and ignoring the noise even if there is something on the outside being said I don't feel it. We're playing in Washington, D.C., and for the Redskins and in the NFL, there's always going to be something going on there and it's so important to look forward and not look right or left."

Griffin is now fighting for the backup job with Colt McCoy as he has yet to be cleared following a concussion suffered in the preseason. Without the former first-round draft pick in the offense, the game plan is expected to change. Cousins is a more traditional pocket-passer which works well for the type of offense Gruden runs with the team. That will help the fantasy value of DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon along with highlighting the run game as well.

Cousins is fighting to prove he deserves to be the starting quarterback while also aiming to earn a new contract in the upcoming offseason. Cousins is entering the final year of his rookie contract and could get a nice extension from the Redskins if he plays well for Gruden's offense. Everyone from Jackson to Alfred Morris have stressed their confidence in his ability to excel for the team in 2015 and Washington might aim to keep him over Griffin come next summer.
