Week 1 Fantasy Football Recap for Wide Receivers: Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Andre Johnson, Odell Beckham

The five best:

1.  Julio Jones (Atlanta Falcons): 26.10 Fantasy Points: Jones went 9/11 from the field with 142 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Falcons victory over the Eagles. If you have Jones you likely took him with your first round pick and he proved he was absolutely worth the value. Jones is the clear number 1 wide receiver in the Falcons offense and has game breaking speed that most defensive backs cannot handle.

2. DeAndre Hopkins (Houston Texans): 23.80 Fantasy Points: Hopkins took a big step forward in being considered an elite wide receiver by finishing the game with 98 yards, a 2 point conversion, and 2 touchdowns. Hopkins went 9/13 from the field and was the clear target for whoever was under center. The thought prior to drafting was that Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer could not bring the most out of the star wide receiver however he is getting enough targets in the offense regardless of who is starting under center.

3. Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers): 19.30 Fantasy Points: This was the only wide receiver expected to be in the top 3 week 1. Brown proved why he was so valuable to the Steelers going 9/11 from the field with 133 yards and a touchdown. Brown is always going to be open he is just that good.

4. James Jones (Green Bay Packers): 17.10 Fantasy Points: Jones was the first surprise of the week for wide receivers as he went 4/4 from the field for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns. The familiar chemistry between both Rodgers and Jones was palpable and you can clearly see Rodgers trying to get the ball to the Packers returning veteran. Jones has had good games with Rodgers before but has failed to be a consistent threat.

5. Keenan Allen (San Diego Chargers): 16.60 Fantasy Points: Allen had a magnificent day catching 15/17 targets and going for 166 yards. Allen was routinely targeted by quarter Philip Rivers and is the clear primary weapon for the Chargers offense.

The five worst

1. Andre Johnson (Indianapolis Colts): 2:40 Fantasy Points: Johnson caught 4 out of 10 balls for 24 yards in the Colts week 1 loss to the Bills. That's plain bad for a veteran player who is in what will probably be his last productive year. The Bills defense swarmed however there is no excuse for all the drops.

2. Calvin Johnson (Detroit Lions): 3.90 Fantasy Points: This one had to hurt for fantasy owners taking another chance on Calvin Johnson after last year's dud. The Lions could not get anything going against the Chargers and this effected Johnson's numbers greatly. Johnson only went 2/4 for 39 yards but the biggest problem is how much he cost to draft. A second round pick could buy you a lot more than 3.90 points.....ouch.

3. Odell Beckham (New York Giants): 4.40 Fantasy Points: Beckham struggled heavily against the Cowboys only catching 5 balls for 44 yards. Beckham was hit by JJ Wilcox early in the game that sent him walking towards the wrong sideline. That hit might have rocked Beckham for a few plays but the Giants overall offensive sluggishness killed his value. Beckham also probably cost a second round pick and did not come close to living up to his value.

4. Torrey Smith (San Francisco 49ers): 1.10 Fantasy Points: Smith was touted as the 49ers primary receiver however he was only targeted three times and secured one of them for 11 yards. Smith needs to be dropped immediately.

5. Dez Bryant (Dallas Cowboys): 4.80 Fantasy Points: This is another tough performance from one of the best wide receivers in the league. If you drafted Bryant you likely did it in the first or second round and now have to watch that pick lose a bit of its luster. Bryant was injured in the Cowboys victory breaking a bone in his right foot. Originally medical personnel stated it would take 4-6 weeks for it to heal. Now it is looking like 6-8 weeks Bryant will be out however Dez has stated that he will update the fans himself to his condition.
