The Miami Dolphins won over the Redskins in Week 1 and Ndamukong Suh made an impact in his debut game and he also avoided suspension for his run-in with Alfred Morris. The Dolphins saw Jarvis Landry win AFC special teams player of the week, while rookie DeVante Parker is expected to play more in Week 2.
Suh was one of the biggest names on the market this offseason and he signed a record setting contract, which put high expectations on the defense for this year. Suh made an impact for the Dolphins against the Redskins and helped the team win in Week 1 to start the season 1-0. Suh also made news for a tackle on Alfred Morris, as it appeared Suh kicked Morris in the helmet after bringing him down. Suh denied any wrongdoing and according to Pro Football Talk, Suh will not face any discipline for the incident.
DeVante Parker was active for Week 1 after having foot surgery in the offseason, but he only played one snap against the Redskins. Parker was a first round pick this year and the Dolphins are expecting him to take over for Mike Wallace as the speedy deep threat for Ryan Tannehill. Parker did not get a target from Tannehill in the game and head coach Joe Philbin said in his press conference this week that Parker likely will play more in Week 2.
Parker missed all of the preseason and also had to miss a big chunk of offseason workouts and that left him a bit behind the curve for the Dolphins. Philbin said that Parker needs to get in a "rhythm" and each week he should see increased reps on offense. The Dolphins are fairly deep at receiver with Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills and Rishard Matthews along with Parker. The team also has Jordan Cameron at tight end and he can help open things up in the passing game.
Landry had a breakout season last year and he started off the year with a strong performance, putting up eight catches for 53 yards and a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown. Landry was named AFC special teams player of the week and he comes in as the number one receiver for the Dolphins. Last season Landry had 84 catches for 758 yards and five touchdowns and he also added 954 yards returning kicks. Landry has the chance to put up some big numbers this season with Tannehill.
The Dolphins have a few injuries to deal with coming into the game, as defensive end Cameron Wake was limited in practice on Wednesday. ESPN.com reports that Olivier Vernon was also limited and that three players did not participate in practice with Dion Sims, Reshad Jones and Derrick Shelby sitting out.
