The San Francisco Giants take their 2-0 series lead to the cold weather of Detroit to face the Tigers in Game 3 of the World Series. Game time is 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
For the Tigers, it is almost a must win situation. No team has come back down 0-3 in the World Series and they face the Giants' best pitcher in the playoffs, Ryan Vogelsong.
In three starts, Vogelsong has only allowed three earned runs while pitching 19 innings. His ERA is 1.42 and opponents are hitting just .162 in the playoffs.
This does not suit well for a Tigers team that has only managed to score three runs in the first two games of the series. Pablo Sandoval has out-produced the entire Tigers' lineup that has struggled against left handed pitching.
However, Vogelsong is right handed. Miguel Cabrera and Andy Dirks were in the Top 10 for highest batting averages against right handed pitching. Dirks hit .336 during the regular season, Cabrera was just under him hitting .335 versus right handed pitching.
If they want to keep their World Series hopes alive, they will need these two hitters to come up big tonight.
Also getting the start for the Tigers against the righty Vogelsong will be Quentin Berry, who will likely bat second, moving Infante back down to the eight or nine spot in the batting order.
Anibal Sanchez will take the mound for the Tigers and he has been dominant in the playoffs. In two starts, he has pitched 13.1 innings giving up just two runs posting a 1.35 ERA.
Just like every other pitcher, Sanchez hasn't pitched in a long time. The last time he took the mound was against the New York Yankees for Game 2 of the ALCS. There he went seven innings, gave up just three hits and struckout seven.
