After disappointing playoff outcomes for the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, both teams had to revamp their rosters in preparation for Tuesday's 10:30 p.m. ET Western Conference season opener.

After failing to sign Dallas native Deron Williams, the Mavericks opted to settle and sign eight newcomers , some of which that inlcude Chris Kaman, Elton Brand, O.J. Mayo, Darren Collison, Dahntay Jones and Eddy Curry.

"We had some big fish available and we didn't get them. So you can do either of two things -- blow the whole thing up and start over, or keep signing guys to short contracts to stay a player in the free agent market the following year," Nowitzki said. "For basically saying we still want to be a player next summer, we still put a decent product out there. We're going to compete and see what happens."

However, Dallas will enter the game with injury concerns as Kaman who is nursing a strained right calf won't play in the opener, forcing Curry to get the start at the center position.

For the Lakers, they've made the biggest headlines during the offseason.

Not only did the Lakers improve their bench with the signings of Antawn Jamison and Jodie Meeks, plus the re-signing of Jordan Hill, the team also signed two-time MVP point guard Steve Nash and three-time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard to join the starting lineup with Metta World Peace, Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant.

With their seemingly All-Star looking starting lineup, the Lakers have boosted their chances to competing for the NBA Finals coming out the west.

However, coming into Tuesday's season opener, Bryant remains to be a game time decision as he remains to be day-to-day as he recovers from injury.
