Houston Texans Rumors: Brian Hoyer Starts Over Ryan Mallett Week 5? Arian Foster Returns, Fantasy Starter For Alfred Blue

The Houston Texans saw Arian Foster return to the lineup in Week 4 and while he did not have a great game, he is the best fantasy starter option for the team in Week 5. The Texans had to abandon the run after going down big to the Falcons and that put Brian Hoyer in as the quarterback over Ryan Mallett and he could get a chance to start moving forward.

Foster returning is big for the Texans, as they had been using Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes and Chris Polk as the main running backs in his absence. Foster only rushed for 10 yards in the game on Sunday, but that was more about the score of the game, as the Texans had to abandon the running game after going down by 40 points to the Falcons. Foster had eight carries and made three catches for 25 yards and Foster was the starting running back with Alfred Blue as his backup.

The bigger concern for the Texans now is the starting quarterback, as head coach Bill O'Brien pulled Ryan Mallett in favor of Brian Hoyer as the game got out of hand on Sunday. Mallett did not have a great start to the game with 150 yards and an interception on 12-of-27 passes and that forced O'Brien to bring in Hoyer. Hoyer looked better and went for 232 yards and three touchdowns, but the game was way out of hand by that point and the team lost 48-21 in Week 4.

The Texans have the Thursday game this week and O'Brien will have to make a decision on the quarterback soon with the Colts on the schedule. Foster getting a light workload this week may not have been the worst thing in the world, as the team has a short time to prepare for Week 5. Foster said he is healthy and felt good after the game against the Falcons and that it simply was a "bad game" and that next week he should be able to bounce back.

Last season the team relied heavily on Foster and he had over 1500 total yards, including 1246 yards rushing and eight touchdowns. The Colts could be without Andrew Luck and that could help the Texans find their footing, but Indy was able to win this week despite not having Luck in the lineup. Hoyer comes in with three touchdowns and one interception this season and he has 468 yards passing in two games played and he could get the start on Thursday for O'Brien.

Mallett has shown some flashes during his time starting, but he has only been competing 51 percent of his passes through four games and has three interceptions along with three TDs. Mallett has played in four games overall and he could get another chance to start, but with how he has been playing, O'Brien likely will make the change back to Hoyer.
