Premier League Results: Suarez Wonder Goal Sees Liverpool Share Points with Newcastle; QPR and Reading Remain Winless

A brilliant Luis Suarez goal helped Liverpool take a share of the spoils against Newcastle United in Sunday's English Premier League game at Anfield.

In a match which Liverpool dominated - possession wise - Newcastle took the lead a couple of minutes before halftime, through Yohan Cabaye.

A wonderful bit of wing play from Hatem Ben Arfa saw the French international stand up a cross to the far post, which was perfectly controlled by his compatriot before thumping the ball into the top of the net.

Liverpool might have felt a little aggrieved to have gone into the break a goal down, having had control for nearly the entire 45 minutes - but they sorely lacked that cutting edge in front of goal, quite similar to the conundrum faced by Arsenal. Both teams seem to have tons of possession, but get nowhere near threatening to score.

The home side came out with a point or two to prove in the second half, and did just that, starting the game brightly. Suarez was again their inspiration - the Uruguayan fighting for every ball and trying his best, most of the time all on his own, to unlock the stubborn Newcastle defense.

A couple of half-chances came and went, and then Liverpool equalized, thanks to the genius of Suarez in the 67th minute. Newcastle carelessly gave the ball away in midfield, with possession falling to Jose Enrique deep in the Liverpool half. The left-back, spotting Suarez making a run in behind the defenders, played a 60 yard pass towards his striker, who then controlled the ball brilliantly with the top of his shoulder, before flicking the ball with his right foot past goalkeeper Tim Krul to slot it in with his left into an empty net.

The goal seemed to wake up the game, which had been drifting a little, as the fans saw some end-to-end action, with both teams looking like they could score the next goal - even if Liverpool looked the most likely.

Substitute Jonjo Shelvey missed three makeable chances - the first of those a tap-in from close-range after some brilliant play from Suarez. Fabricio Coloccini was rightly sent-off seven minutes from time, for a dangerous studs-up lunge on Suarez, which thankfully did not do too much damage.

Liverpool with a man advantage went in search of the winner, with Shelvey missing a couple of chances late on, as Newcastle stayed strong to earn a draw.

In the day's other game, Queens Park Rangers and Reading remained winless after playing out a 1-1 draw. Reading defender Kaspars Gorkss had given the away side the lead against his former club in the 16th minute, but a better second half performance from the home side saw Djibril Cisse netting the equalizer in the 66th minute.
