One thing the Green Bay Packers simply cannot afford is injuries. The team lost Jordy Nelson in the preseason to an ACL tear while players like Davante Adams continue to deal with hamstring issues. Aaron Rodgers continues to make something out of nothing, but that might get harder to do as Ty Montgomery injured his ankle in the Week 6 win.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, Montgomery went down with an ankle injury in the win over the San Diego Chargers as the receiver went down on a 6-yard catch. Montgomery could not put any weight on his ankle and had to be helped off the field before getting carted into the locker room. If out for any period of time, the Packers would be extremely short-handed as their bye week comes at the right time.
Demovsky writes that Cobb is still dealing with linger pain in his shoulder following an injury in the preseason. Adams was held out again in the game against the Chargers as the Packers hope the bye week heals his ankle along with Montgomery's. Right now, the Packers are down to four healthy receivers. Cobb can still play. James Jones, Jeff Janis and Jared Abbrederis are the best weapons Rodgers has to work with. That is not exactly ideal.
The lack of depth showed against the Chargers. The Packers might have gotten the win, but it certainly was not easy as Eddie Lacy struggled against the defense and the receivers were not making plays. The quarterback is optimistic that the Packers can use the bye week to improve heading into the Nov.1 game against Denver.
"You know what? I'm happy. We're 6-0, but there's room for improvement," Rodgers said, via ESPN Wisconsin. "We had 49 (offensive) plays tonight; that's far below our standard. They had the ball for 38 minutes. At this point, we don't need to win pretty every week. We'd like to, and we're going to get graded to that standard. You set the bar pretty high with the pretty wins. But when you have a game like tonight, 49 plays, the inefficiency in the passing game, it's not going to be the best meeting room coming back next Monday. But they all count the same. We'll take 'em all."
With the way Rodgers is playing, if the Packers can get healthy they will have no issues against Denver. However, if they are without Adams and Montgomery for the game, things could be an issue with the Broncos owning one of the best defensive units in the league.
