NFL Season Top 5 Rookies 2015: Amari Cooper, Todd Gurley, Ameer Abdullah, Marcus Mariota, Duke Johnson Start Strong, DeVante Parker Bust

The NFL season is moving into Week 7 of the schedule and some rookies that have jumped out this year include names like Amari Cooper, Todd Gurley, Ameer Abdullah, Marcus Mariota and Duke Johnson. The defensive side of the ball has players like Leonard Williams, Ronald Darby, Landon Collins and Shaq Thompson making an impact.

Here is a look at some of the top rookies:

Amari Cooper, Raiders
Cooper is considered to be the top wide receiver in the draft class and he has shown that ability this season. Cooper is the clear number one for Derek Carr and this year he has 28 catches for 386 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders. Cooper has shown some big play ability and he has a chance to win offensive rookie of the year.

Todd Gurley, Rams
Gurley was a top 10 pick despite dealing with a knee injury last season at Georgia and once he got onto the field he made an immediate impact for the Rams. In his last game Gurley had 159 yards against the Packers and this season he has 314 yards overall in just three games. Gurley has not made it into the endzone yet, but he is averaging over 100 yards per game this season.

Ameer Abdullah, Lions
Abdullah has struggled over the last few games, but he has been solid to start the season for the Lions and he has contributed at running back and on returns. The Lions have had an injury with Joique Bell and Abdullah has helped make up for that. Abdullah is a solid receiver out of the backfield and he has 179 rushing yards with 13 catches for 113 yards in six games this season.

Marcus Mariota, Titans
Mariota is dealing with a sprained knee after the loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, but he has been impressive so far as a rookie. Mariota has started all six games for the Titans and the quarterback has nine touchdowns and five interceptions this season while passing for 1239 yards. Mariota has also been accurate, completing 63 percent of his passes.

Duke Johnson, Browns
Johnson has been a solid contributor for the Browns this season and he has 159 rushing yards and 24 catches for 190 yards receiving. The Browns have been using Isaiah Crowell as the starter and Robert Turbin has just come back, but Johnson has been getting carries and should continue to do so down the stretch this season.

DeVante Parker, Dolphins
Parker has been a bit behind since he missed most of the offseason and training camp with a foot injury and in five games he has just four catches. The Dolphins are going to try and get Parker going, but for now he has been a bust in five games.

Some defensive rookies to keep an eye on include Ronald Darby, Landon Collins and Shaq Thompson as well as Leonard Williams. Williams has helped give the Jets one of the best front lines in the league and he comes in with 20 tackles and a half sack this season. Darby has been playing well for the Bills with two interceptions and 29 combined tackles and he has helped the team deal with injuries.

Landon Collins has started right away for the Giants with all the injuries in the secondary and he has 28 total tackles this season before playing in Monday night football. Collins has been thrust into the starting lineup and while he has been overmatched at times in coverage, he has been a steady safety for the Giants. Thompson has been making an impact for the Panthers, who remain undefeated after winning over the Seahawks. Thompson has 20 combined tackles this season and one sack.
