The Minnesota Timberwolves have gotten off to a good start this season even though they are missing their top two players to injury.

The team is 2-1 on the year due to a core of young talent and number of veterans that have pulled together in the wake of losing both Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio to injury.

The two are rehabbing from serious injuries and may not get on the court together until December. Rubio tore his ACL last March, while Love broke his hand during the preseason and will miss six to eight weeks.

The team is coming into Wednesday's game after winning on the road against the New Jersey Nets 107-96  on Monday night. The team rallied after a great fourth quarter, outscoring "the Nets 32-10 over the final 12 minutes, trailed by as many as 22 points, marking their largest comeback in 15 seasons."

The team was fueled by veteran Anderi Kirilenko, who scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

"The first half was a continuation of last game," Kirilenko, who added four blocks, told the team's official website. "We had a lack of focus. But in the second half, we just talked to each other and did not worry about the losing quarter. We had to just improve our game because since the beginning of the season we had good stretches and bad stretches, but we have to stay in the game with consistency."

Love signed a four-year contract extension worth $62 million in January and is one of the most important pieces to the franchise. For the past three seasons he has averaged a double-double in points and rebounds and last year he posted his career-best stats, averaging 26 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.

"I think all of our fans anticipated this season with great enthusiasm. We knew we were going to have to wait for Ricky, and now we have two guys to wait for," said team owner Glen Taylor to the Associated Press in October. "But again, I'm going to be positive about it and say we've got some young guys and let's see them step up."

In the 2010-11 season, Love led the NBA in rebounding, averaging 15.2 per game and also had the longest consecutive double-double streak since 1976 with 53 games.

The Orlando Magic enter the season with a fresh new look after trading franchise player Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. The team has won two of its first three games but has yet to win on the road.

Jameer Nelson has been injured for the team, but Arron Afflalo has played well in his absence, including 28 points on Tuesday in a loss to the Chicago Bulls.

"Our lull offensively gave them an opportunity to hit some shots in the fourth quarter," said Afflalo. "It's unfortunate, because it was a game I thought we could have won."

The Magic have dominated the Timberwolves recently, winning eight straight games against the team, according to the Associated Press.

Orlando has played well defensively, ranking in the top five in the league in rebounds and in the top ten in points allowed. The team has been scoring lately as well, averaging 103 points per contest. The team is also ranked sixth in the NBA in assists.

"We can't play one-on-one basketball," first-year coach Jacque Vaughn said. "When we shared the basketball we got good looks. But when we turn it into a one-on-one contest, we're not going to get good looks."

Glen Davis has been an offensive force for the Magic, averaging over 25 points per game this season, good or fourth in the league. Although the team lost against the Bulls, Orlando has shown explosiveness in the wake of Howard's departure.

"The Bulls did a good job of getting us out of our stuff," Davis said. "You have to give them credit. They're a great defensive team."

Orlando started the season off by winning two straight games, but now face a losing streak if they fall to the Timberwolves on Wenesday.
