Buzzing from the last-gasp victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, Chelsea will look to build on that confidence when they host Liverpool in Sunday's English Premier League game.
Fernando Torres will be desperate to find the winning touch against his old club, with the Spanish striker yet to be in a winning side against his old club - Torres was not involved in the FA Cup final, when the Blues beat the Reds at Wembley.
Liverpool, on the other hand, will rely on their striker Luis Suarez, who has been in brilliant form for his club, almost single-handedly keeping his side afloat.
Di Matteo is well aware of the threat posed by Suarez and has planned a strategy to try and cut the Uruguayan's effectiveness. "We'll have to be very focused," he said. "Not just on Suarez, because he's not the only one, but we'll have to pay some attention to his movement and threat because he's an extremely dangerous player for them.
"Every team likes to have a top scorer, other teams have them as well. We played Swansea last week and Michu seems to be the one for them, but every team has one top man. Manchester United have Robin van Persie, although they have other options, but he seems to be very important when he plays for them.
"I've been watching Liverpool and analysing the way they play and the options they have when they are attacking. We'll obviously talk about that with the team, and we'll need to limit the balls into Suarez as much as we can."
Chelsea will be without Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard, but John Terry is expected to return to the starting lineup after completing his four-match suspension. "Probably Sunday is a bit too early for him but hopefully he will be back for us for the next game against West Brom a week later," Di Matteo said on Cole.
On Terry Di Matteo added: "He is going to be available for Sunday. He is in a good position to be involved. I am pleased his ban is over now and we can have him available for the rest of the season. We have a lot of competition in the team, a lot of internationals, who have a lot of quality at a high level.
"(JT) had played only one competitive game in four weeks and you have to take that into consideration. He'll be a big asset for us and I'm so happy that he's back.
"I don't think anybody is guaranteed a starting place, they all have to work and be fighting for their place in the team."
For Liverpool Glen Johnson is expected to return to play against his old club, after recovering from injury, while Pepe Reina remains doubtful.
